Farrer has established an enviable and well-deserved reputation as the sole, public, agricultural high school for boys in Australia.
350 of 600 students reside at the school. Emphasis is placed upon the maintenance of traditions and upon the ongoing pursuit of excellence in all facets of school life - in teaching and learning, welfare, agriculture, sport and cultural programs.
The provision of a safe and caring environment, in both the boarding and day sections of the school, is of paramount importance, and comprehensive welfare support structures are in place to encourage harmonious cooperation. Emphasis is placed upon the living of values such as respect, loyalty, trust and responsibility in all aspects of school life.
Innovation in teaching and learning programs and the continued importance of a broad curriculum, centred upon agriculture, are seen as key elements in driving student engagement. Student effort and commitment are encouraged and recognised along with achievement and success.
Extensive student monitoring and mentoring programs ensure that individual student learning needs are met and immediacy of action is seen as critical to this process.
